Conference Wide Williams, Jason [1]. iPlant Collaborative: A Unified Cyberinfrastructure for Life Sciences. The iPlant Collaborative (NSF - #DBI-0735191) has developed a comprehensive cyberinfrastructure that services a broad range of biological research questions by providing a unified platform for the storage, sharing, and analyses of large datasets - from genomes to image data, and beyond. iPlant's mission includes empowering discovery at multiple levels, from making bioinformatics applications accessible to the "average bench-biologist" to enabling big-data science that would not otherwise be possible. This half-day hands-on workshop will take users through several science examples (e.g. RNA-Seq, Phylogenetics, etc.) catered to the audience interest, and will help users get started with managing their own data and analysis projects. Participants will be introduced to several iPlant technologies including Discovery Environment: iPlant's web-based solution for managing data, and running analyses - a scalable and extensible platform that provides easy access to high-powered computing and hundreds of commonly used bioinformatics tools; Atmosphere: iPlant cloud services for harnessing on-demand computational power - 1-click access to custom computing environments; Data Store: iPlant data storage provides terabyte-level storage in a system that offer flexibility and control over your data; PhytoBisque: iPlant's integration of the BISQUE image analysis software enables researchers to conduct quantitative, image-based phenotype studies and manage large image collections and metadata.
