Economic Botany Section Gross, Briana [1]. Domestication genetics in African rice (Oryza glaberrima). African rice (Oryza glaberrima) was domesticated roughly 4,000-5,000 years ago in western Africa from the wild species Oryza barthii. While this domestication event was independent of the domestication of the more common Asian rice (Oryza sativa), the two crop species show many similar phenotypes resulting from artificial selection. However, it is unknown whether these parallel phenotypic changes are the result of similar or unique genetic mechanisms in each case. This study explores the patterns of molecular evolution and genetic diversity of Asian rice domestication genes in African rice and its wild relative. Log in to add this item to your schedule
