A plastid phylogeny of Adiantum (Pteridaceae).

There are over 200 species of maidenhair ferns found worldwide (excluding only Antarctica) – from temperate latitudes to the tropics – and all are in the singular genus Adiantum.  For the first time, we present a peek at a comprehensive phylogeny for the bulk of the genus based on four plastid markers (rbcL, atpA, chlN, rpoA).  Biogeographic patterns revealed by our analysis will be discussed, as well as evolutionary relationships and possible origins of the genus.
